Objectives: To provide opportunity to the Malaysian Palm oil Industry members to establish new business contacts and to seek new market opportunity for their products in Sub – Sahara Africa and past participation involving Malaysian companies had resulted in sales of palm products in this exhibition.

Programme details / Implementation approach: MPOC Durban office would take up 36 sqm booth to participate in the Agrifood exhibition which will be held from the 20 – 23 July, 2008 at the Gallager Estate in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Malaysian Palm Oil Industry members would be invited to participate together with MPOC in the exhibition. Cooking demonstrations will be carried out during the exhibition. The chef will explain the health and nutritional benefits of palm oil and give tips on cooking with palm oil. It is useful to educate audiences via cooking demonstrations as they get to see the attributes of palm oil in cooking, i.e. can withstand high temperature while frying, no smoking, non sticky, does not influence the taste of the food. The chefs who carry out the demonstrations are also important as the audience tend to be easily infuenced by them. MPOC will work closely with a well known Celebrity Chef in South Africa who has a large following to give a tremendous boost to the exhibition and a large following to give a tremendous boost to the exhibition and a large turnout is common during his/her presence.

The Agri – food exhibition will be co – located with the Africa’s Big Seven expo. This annual showcase for the continent attracts visitors from 44 countries and international participation from around the world. It enjoys the sponsorship and endorsement of all leading role players from South Africa’s Department of Trade, Industry & Agriculture, to production association and trade press. Over 50% of visitors to Africa’s Big seven represent owners or Directors of companies. Research reveals that 96% of visitors would recommend that business colleagues to also visit the Expo.
